About the Item

Circular Art Deco “Garland of Flowers” Chandelier in Molded Glass with a Bronze Frame by Genet & Michon This model is documented, photo attached, in G. Janneau, Le Luminaire, 1st series, 1925, Ch. Moreau ed., p. 7. A second identical chandelier is available to make a pair. From the top: A decorative, flush mount, conical canopy (ceiling mount at the top that serves to cover the electrical box in the ceiling) holds five elegant, nickelled bronze rods that support the bronze frame and the five molded and pressed glass plates. There are 6 « invisible » lights (bulbs) hidden in the glass body. About Genet & Michon Former students of the Ecole Boulle, Philippe Genêt and Lucien Michon set up a design studio in 1911 for furnishings, chairs, and lighting fixtures. From 1920 they exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. They won several First Prizes at the 1925 exhibition famous for the Art Deco style. The French government commissioned them to produce numerous lighting fixtures for the Elysée Palace, official residence of the French president, as well as for ministries and embassies around the world. They also designed many fixtures for steamships. A number of these commission were done in collaboration with other famous decorators such as Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, Paul Follot, or Maurice Dufrene.

Italian, Neoclassical, Montgolfier, Chandelier, Glass, 8 lights, 1780 - 1820
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
Wonderful and rare Italian chandelier in the "Montgolfière" - Hot Air Balloon - style dating from the end of the 18th – beginning of the the 19th century (circa 1780 - 1820). Built around an exceptional glass column made of a single piece of glass (75 cm) which surmounts and holds a gold leaf gilded cup. 8 solid glass arms illuminate the chandelier. At the top of the chandelier a crown of almond beads and drops forms the canopy. The chandelier is then festooned with garlands of almond shaped beads and drops. Garlands festoon from the top to a circular ring in the middle. The garlands then festoon from the circular ring and are attached to a central piece underneath. This style is typical of hot air balloon and Regency chandeliers. At the end of the 18th century, under the reign of Louis XVI, King of France, the Montgolfier brothers invented the Montgolfière. This invention inspired cabinetmakers and decorators of the 18th and 19th centuries. Hot air balloon chairs...
