German 12 light Empire chandelier by Werner & Mieth

About the Item

A large 12-light Empire chandelier with astonishing decorations of horse heads etc. The design is very architectural where the "ring" from below looks like a six-pointed star. Each of the six points has a horse head holding two curved candle arms which in turn holds an oval ring with crystals. All the bronze work is very detailed and the horse-heads are sculptured with great skill to get a living expression. The top of the chandelier has a gilt saucer like roof, typical for Berlin around year 1800. The chandelier has hundreds of crystals hanging in rows creating a complex symmetrical design. The design is typical for German neo-classical chandeliers. This one has all the attributes of a Werner & Mieth chandelier with for example their typical decorative patterns on different rings. The company Werner & Mieth was founded in 1792 and had royal clients all over Europe.
