About the Item

Superb French Art Deco chandelier by Charles Schneider for Henry Mouynet (Paris), France, circa 1920. Charles Schneider produced some of his finest models for Henry Mouynet. There were few of them, making this pendant a rare and very high-quality piece. Pink frosted glass shade decorated with a stylized Art Deco motif. Silver-plated stamped brass fitting. Dimensions: Height 68 cm (can be reduced), Diameter 35 cm (13.8 in). Period: Muller Frères, Degue, Schneider, etc. Signed "J. Mouynet" on the shade (see photo). Very good condition. Comes wired for your country (US, UK, EU, Australia, China, etc.). Can be operated with LEDs. Henry Mouynet, manufacturer of bronze lighting fixtures (11 rue Étienne-Marcel, Paris), was one of the largest bronze lighting manufacturers of the interwar period, alongside companies such as Hettier-Vincent et Petitot in Paris and Cherpion in Nancy. Schneider and Degué both created several molded-pressed lampshades for him, signed H. Mouynet or J. Mouynet. He ran a major Parisian firm, working primarily in the neoclassical style, but also producing Art Deco sconces and chandeliers. In 1926, he built a huge building at 11 rue Étienne Marcel Prolongé (now rue Roger Verlomme). After the Depression, he was forced to sell it. H. Markhbeinn, whose business consisted of importing and distributing Bohemian glass from Eastern Europe, bought the premises in 1937. ChatGPT said: This magnificent French Art Deco pendant chandelier, designed by Charles Schneider for Henry Mouynet (Paris), dates from the late 1920s. It features a rose-etched glass shade adorned with a bold and stylized Art Deco motif, paired with a silver-plated stamped brass frame. The piece measures 68 cm in height and 35 cm in diameter. It can be shortened to accommodate different spaces. The shade is signed "J. Mouynet," confirming its authenticity and provenance. This chandelier is in very good condition and can be wired according to the electrical codes of your country, whether in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, China, or elsewhere. LED bulbs can be used for increased efficiency. This piece, which dates from the same period as other renowned French lighting manufacturers such as Muller Frères, Degué, and Schneider, demonstrates the high-quality craftsmanship of Henry Mouynet's workshop, one of the largest producers of bronze lighting in Paris during the interwar period. Mouynet's collaboration with other famous glassmakers such as Schneider and Degué resulted in several iconic Art Deco lighting fixtures, including this chandelier. Ideal for collectors of vintage French Art Deco lighting, this chandelier is a rare piece that embodies the elegance and refinement of this era.
