About the Item

This exuberant Extremely Large and Unusual French chandelier in the manner of Maison Baguès features a richly adorned 24 light frame with layered tiers of sweeping crystal-beaded arms. Each arm terminates in a scalloped glass bobeche, from which cascades an opulent array of colored glass drops and faceted crystal prisms. The chandelier’s silhouette is grand and sculptural, with every tier densely festooned in a rhythmic arrangement of reflective and colorful elements. The chandelier incorporates a broad range of hand-blown glass fruits including dark purple grapes in dense clusters, elongated green pears, amber apricots, and red-brown cherries or plums. These fruits are interspersed among faceted clear crystal prisms, tear drops, and rosettes, as well as swags of octagonal bead chains that loop between the arms and connect the tiers. In addition to the fruit forms, the piece features substantial drops in white, rock crystal, amber, emerald green, amethyst, clear, and deep red glass, each with crisp cutting and high translucency. The interior stem is formed with tiered crystal sections rising to a domed canopy, from which additional fruit and prism drops descend.
