Louis XV Patinated Bronze Chandelier with Blue Grapes, Italian Mid-20th Century

About the Item

This Italian Louis XV chandelier is made of patinated bronze in a classic basket design. The piece sports bronze candle cups and bobeches, and is adorned with a crown of clear crystal stars and blue crystal grapes which feature clear etched leaves. Following the flowing crystals downward, we find multiple shapes of carved crystal plaquettes and even more small bunches of blue crystal grapes. The chandelier is finished with a finial of the same blue crystal grapes with the clear etched leaves, resulting in a fixture plentiful in both character and beauty. Each piece in our shop is professionally rewired and in working order. Each chandelier and lantern comes with a vintage canopy, three feet of chain, and ample wire, and each sconce comes with all materials needed to mount. Each piece is newly wired with UL approved wire and sockets and is fully operable. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.

This beautiful Louis XV chandelier is made of gilded tole, gold plating on tin, and joins our collection from Italy. The piece dates back to the mid 20th Century, circa 1950, and offers a unique shape with a foliate motif throughout.
