About the Item

Rare French Art Deco Pendant Chandelier by Auguste HEILIGENSTEIN (1891-1976) for Maison LEUNE, Paris, circa 1920 This exceptional French Art Deco pendant chandelier was designed by renowned artist Auguste Heiligenstein during his tenure at Maison Leune, located at 28bis rue du Cardinal Lemoine, Paris. Crafted around 1920, this rare vintage piece features a stunning enameled granite glass shade suspended from its original stamped brass fixture. Adorned with elegant garlands of blue flowers, the chandelier measures approximately 27 inches (69 cm) in height (can be shortened) and 13.8 inches (35 cm) in diameter. It is in very good condition and bears the original “Leune” signature on the shade (see photo for detail). The fixture is professionally wired and ready for installation in your country (US, UK, EU, China, etc.), with compatibility for LED bulbs. Historical Context: The Société Anonyme des Etablissements Leune was established around 1900 at the iconic Paris address of 28bis rue du Cardinal Lemoine in the 5th arrondissement. Initially producing romantic-style pieces with lightly enameled landscapes, the company evolved significantly during the 1920s under the directorship of Paul Daum. From 1923 to 1926, Auguste-Claude Heiligenstein served as art designer, creating elegant designs that were hand-painted onto Daum Frères-supplied glass. During this golden era, Maison Leune produced exquisite thickly enameled glass artworks renowned for their quality and artistic detail. The company also produced molded-pressed glass vases signed with the Etaleune mark, resembling the style of Muller Frères. Maison Leune ceased operations in the early 1930s. All enamel-painted glass items from the company are signed "Leune," while press-molded pieces carry a printed stamp.
