Mid-Century German Perforated Metal Ceiling Lamp by Ernest Igl, 1960s
About the Item
Rare mid century pendant lamp with a striking perforation from the renowned hillebrand according to a draft by ernest igl from the 1960s.
The lamp consists of three elements. The blendring forms the central element. Above is a simple, white -painted cylinder, which houses the recording of the cable and the frame. Inside there is an open cylinder made of opal glass, which surrounds the lamp as a diffuser. The glass looks out slightly below the blendring. The most striking detail of this lamp is the dark metal blendring. The ring is provided with the perforation characteristic of ernest igl. The irregular holes appear as a light dots when switched on. Ernest Igl
Ernest Igl graduated from the Karlsbad Commercial Academy in 1938 and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich. After the war, he worked as a draftsman and graphic artist in Munich. Igl enjoyed a high reputation as one of the first illustrators at major school book publishers and distinguished himself as an internationally sought-after industrial designer. He died in Davos in 2001.
