A MID-CENTURY-MODERN MODERNIST SPACE-AGE Ceiling Light by STILNOVO, Italy 1960
About the Item
A spectacular aerial suspension or chandelier, Modernist, Space-Age, Forme-Libre, UFO-inspired ovoid body in white diffusing Perspex, structure and finishes in bronze or gilded brass, unique 3-wire suspension system connected within a triangular brass structure over the lamp, adjustable in height, edition Stilnovo, Italy 1950.
The Perspex ovoid "body" which constitutes this luminaire is made up of 2 half-hemispherical elements, subtely joined by one single vertical brass axe and a few golden brass pellets. The whole piece is a complex aerial construction wich could be described as a floating mobile, as all elements are just connected to each other by subtle connections, tensions, and gravity.
DIMENSIONS: D 50 cm
Adjustable height (approximately 80 cm in the photo)
CONDITION: In very good original condition.
Wear, scratches, marks, chips, patina of use on all surfaces.
Some loss of gold on the cylindrical brass ceiling mount and on the superior brass structure.
A subtle internal crack in the Perspex around the inferior central brass axe, due to pressure, invisible and without any consequence.
This is a rare beautiful fifties collector's piece!
