Italian, Neoclassical, Montgolfier, Chandelier, Glass, 8 lights, 1780 - 1820
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
Wonderful and rare Italian chandelier in the "Montgolfière" - Hot Air Balloon - style dating from the end of the 18th – beginning of the the 19th century (circa 1780 - 1820). Built around an exceptional glass column made of a single piece of glass (75 cm) which surmounts and holds a gold leaf gilded cup. 8 solid glass arms illuminate the chandelier. At the top of the chandelier a crown of almond beads and drops forms the canopy. The chandelier is then festooned with garlands of almond shaped beads and drops. This style is typical of hot air balloon and Regency chandeliers. At the end of the 18th century, under the reign of Louis XVI, King of France, the Montgolfier brothers invented the Montgolfière. This invention inspired cabinetmakers and decorators of the 18th and 19th centuries. Hot air balloon chairs...
