About the Item
A beautiful and impressive Mid-Century Italian Modern brass chandelier from the 1970s, designed by Oscar Torlasco (1934–2004) for Stilkronen in Italy. The chandelier features ten arms and measures 25 inches in diameter. Crafted in brass, it provides ten light sources positioned behind lenticular, eye-shaped prisms of clear crystal glass. The use of optical lenses was Torlasco’s hallmark, giving the prisms a magnifying effect that creates a striking play of light. The inner shades behind the glass lenses are finished in gold, adding a warm and elegant tone to the light. The chandelier is in very good condition with marginal patina on the metal, the glasses are undamaged. It measures 25 inches in diameter, with a total drop height of 25 inches, and the fixture itself is approximately 16 inches high. We are happy to adjust the drop height to your specifications at no extra cost.
Oscar Torlasco (1934–2004) was an Italian lighting designer renowned for his refined mid-century modern aesthetic. Educated in Milan, he became known for his innovative use of brass and optical glass lenses that created a distinctive light effect. Between the 1950s and 1970s, he designed remarkable chandeliers, sconces, and table lamps for leading Italian manufacturers including Lumi, Stilkronen, Esperia, Stilux, and Lamperti. In 1959 he received the prestigious Compasso d’Oro.
