Very Large Mid-Century Modern 16-Sided Glass and Nickel Chandelier

About the Item

A large and sculptural hexadecagon chandelier comprising a 16 panel glass surround topped by a large glass disc supported by a tiered stepped open framed bottom. The armature in polished nickelled steel and bronze is hung by a single pole stem with original canopy. Has the appearance of floating or a flush mount, but can be lengthened and/ or even still shortened for a surcharge. Wired for US standards, holds 8 sockets. Minimalist, Italian design, Scandinavian Modern, French modern, Art Deco, flush mount, Industrialist, pendant light, lantern.

This unique rectangular shaped modernist chandelier, circa 1940, is attributed to P. Fargette. A French chandelier of billiard style and Industrial Design with an elongated demilune edge profile, stepped flat frosted bottom glass and sides formed of stacked glass rods which give a ridged appearance. Twin rods lower the chandelier from a protracted demilune shaped nickel-plated bronze canopy which invokes the shape of the chandelier. The chandelier is accented on either end by an eight pointed star, a favorite design motif prominent in the 1940s. Pyrex glass rods as seen on the sides of the chandelier were first used in this way in 1944 by Frank Lloyd Wright in his controversial Johnson Wax Building...
