About the Item

So very 1960s Mod! This large gourd Mexican blown-glass pendant lantern is sized well and has great proportions. It is in mint condition. The olive-green glass casts a moody ambience in the room when lit with a warm bulb. The black chain, intended to conceal the cord, finishes off the look of the lamp and enables it to hang nicely at a variety of heights. A unique find for even a room that runs more traditional. 1960s design was characterized by a bold and colorful departure from traditional design forms found in architecture, furniture, art and lighting, really across all categories of design. Vibrant colors and exploratory shapes and materials made their way into homes. Both Art Deco and Art Nouveau re-emerged, with geometric patterns and free flowing forms seen in equal measure. Organic motifs, as expressed in this gourd pendant lantern were very popular throughout the decade.
