About the Item

This lamp is a fine example of the unmistakable Murano style, which mixes the classic chandelier structure of a central axis made up of stacked hand-blown balusters and spindles, with a variety of more fluid, dynamic and sculptural floral and foliate forms. Clear glass mixed with green and light purple details bring the plant forms to life. Elegant, decorative and carrying with it a long history of glassmaking tradition. Murano is a municipality of the Italian city of Venice consisting of a series of interconnected islands. In the 13th century, all glassmakers (and their hazardous furnaces) were ordered to relocate to this area to protect the city from the danger of accidental fires. Over the centuries, Murano glassmakers have been developing and refining their manufacturing techniques, producing many original and exceptional designs that have become hallmarks of this industrial and artistic center. Traditionally, Murano glass has been blown by hand to obtain stylized, sculptural forms.
