1970s Flower Floor Lamp, attributed to Henri Fernandez, France

About the Item

Large modern brass flower floor lamp attributed to Henri Fernandez French Brass, steel, wood c. 1970 Dimensions: H x W x D: 157cm x 50cm x 50cm Description: Of impressive scale, this modern floor lamp is attributed to Henri Fernandez (French, b. 1946). A trained sculptor with a background in metallurgy, Fernandez brings a unique expertise to his metalwork. His preferred materials are steel, brass, and copper with some beautifully showcased in this striking sculptural lamp. The lamp features three prominent blooming flowers, each with meticulously sculpted petals that fold outward to reveal a central polished steel sphere acting as the stigma. The petals are crafted from brass and silvered brass, creating a sophisticated dual-tone effect. The interplay between the matte finish of the petals and the gleaming, reflective stigmas enhances the lamp’s visual allure. When illuminated, the piece comes alive - light radiates from the central spheres, accentuating the sculptural detail of the petals. Slender brass stems extend downward from the flower heads, ending in a cluster of outward-folding leaves set atop a rounded base. The entire composition is mounted on a square black wooden plinth, providing a solid and elegant foundation. Although Fernandez’s works are often unsigned, they are easily identifiable by their distinctive style and masterful execution. His exceptional craftsmanship is evident in the lifelike modelling of the flowers, which convey both delicacy and realism. The lamp’s grand scale and artistic design make it a bold and captivating addition to any interior, whether in a residential or commercial setting. Very nice condition of metal and base. There are no significant knocks. The lamp is fully functional with the old and probably original wiring, but we recommend having the electrics professionally checked due to its age. All attached photos were taken with the light switched on.
