This is a highly attractive and exhibition quality antique French Art Deco brass and ormolu standard lamp and shade, Circa 1920 in date. This splendid lamp features a distinguished column with four triangular tapered sides rising from a stepped square base with four seated lions feet. It is complete with the stunning original domed pleated blue and cream shade and has fittings for 3 light bulbs. The lamp has been rewired and it is ready to grace your special room. The craftsmanship is second to none throughout all aspects of this floor lamp and it is sure to add an unparalleled touch of lighting to your home. Condition: In excellent working condition having been beautifully cleaned and rewired in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. It is an eclectic style that combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Ageimagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colours, bold geometric shapes, and lavish ornamentation. Deco emerged from the Interwar period when rapid industrialization was transforming culture. One of its major attributes is an embrace of technology. This distinguishes Deco from the organic motifs favored by its predecessor Art Nouveau. Historian Bevis Hillier defined Art Deco as "an assertively modern style...[that] ran to symmetry rather than asymmetry, and to the rectilinear rather than the curvilinear; it responded to the demands of the machine and of new material...[and] the requirements of mass production".
