Elegant Mid-Century Iron & Marble Medici Lion Motif Floor Lamp
Attributed to Maitland Smith, Circa 1980s
This striking mid-century floor lamp seamlessly blends classic elegance with fine craftsmanship. Standing at an impressive 60” overall height, with the included shade, it features a commanding model of the Medici Lion—a renowned symbol of strength and power inspired by the famous Renaissance sculptures housed at the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. The intricately detailed lion, depicted with its paw resting on a sphere, rests atop a sleek marble plinth measuring 9.5” wide, 6” deep, and 1” high, adding a regal and historical touch to any interior.
The lamp’s polychromed iron body boasts a beautifully aged patina, supported by a gracefully curved tripod base with a 20” diameter for optimal stability. The slender iron legs converge to create a refined silhouette, perfect for traditional, eclectic, or industrial-inspired spaces.
Functionality complements its form, with the top of the finial positioned 17” from the lion base and the top of the socket at 11.5” from the lion base.
