About the Item

Rared Space Age floor lamp An icon of 1970’s design, this floor lamp features a tubular metal structure with rotating plexiglass globe lamp shade. The lamp shade consists of two parts, one part has an aluminium reflector inside. Due to the aluminium reflector, the light fall can be adjusted to the wished position. Executed in plexiglass, aluminium and chrome-plated steel, the lamp comes with E27 screw fit bulb socket, is wired, in working condition and runs on 220 volt. Designed by André Ricard in 1967 for Metalarte, Spain. Makers mark to the arms. Good original vintage condition. Wear consistent with use and age. Metalarte is a family business with almost a century of history that was born as a metalwork workshop, founded by Antonio Riera Clariana in 1932 under the name of Metall Arts. At the beginning of the 1940s, it began designing and manufacturing its own lamp models, but it was not until the end of the 1950s that it began to define the modern and innovative character for which the firm is known, under the influence of the flourishing scandinavian design of the moment. Starting in the sixties, he began to work with external designers who would become great names in Spanish industrial design, such as André Ricard, Enric Franch, Joan Antoni Blanc or Josep Lluscà, establishing him-self as a benchmark in the lighting sector and a pioneering company of Spanish design; in addition to distri-buting some models produced by international firms such as Louis Poulsen, Arteluce and Stilnovo. André Ricard has been a pioneer and a champion of industrial design in Spain, and he has contributed definitely to both the institutional and professional development of this discipline. He has been President of the ADI-FAD (Design Association of the Fad), Founding President of the ADP (Association of Professional Designers), Vice-president of the ICSID (International Council of Design), Vice-president of the BCD (Barcelona Design Centre), Member of the Faculty of the Art Center (Switzerland), Head of Department of Product Design in the Barcelona Eina design school as well as Patron of its Foundation and also President of Design for the World (NGO of design). At present he is Honorary Patron of the Loewe Foundation, Member of Honour of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Sant Jordi and Academic of the Barcelona Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences. His projects have aimed to improve the function of a great variety of everyday objects. Since 1963 his packaging designs for Antonio Puig Perfumes have been particularly outstanding and prolific . His works for the Olympic movement must also be highlighted, especially the Torch for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and the Crucible for the Olympic Flame in the Musée Olympique in Lausanne (Switzerland). In his role as promoter of the profession at a national and international level, as well as writer and teacher, he stands out for his ethical conception of design linked directly to the improvement of usefulness. André Ricard has been recognized with Spain’s National Design Award , the Sant Jordi Cross from the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Olympic Order from the International Olympic Committee, the Gold Medal for Artistic Merit from the city of Barcelona and he is both Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur from France.

Hardy, Faton ed., Primavera 1912-1972: Atelier d’Art du Printemps Primavera, “Spring” in Italian, was the first French department store to set up a creative workshop at the beginning of the 20th century. The adventure began in 1912 with two Decorative Arts enthusiasts: Pierre Laguionie (1884-1978), director of “Printemps” Department Store and lawyer René Guilleré (1878-1931), founder of the Salon des Artistes Dé-corateurs. Maison Baguès, “Urn with Flowers”Lamp circa 1950
By Maison Baguès
Located in Saint-Ouen, FR
Maison Baguès, “Urn with Flowers”Lamp circa 1950 French Glass & Gilt Metal «Vase of Flowers» two-lights Table Lamp Designed as a both faces crystal vase which crystal leaves and flowers on a gilt-metal stem Since the 1860s, the renowned French luxury lighting atelier Maison Baguès has been pro-ducing pieces that are highly valued across the world. Each piece is hand assembled, using traditional techniques. Depending on the source you consult, French luxury lighting atelier Maison Baguès was launched in Paris in 1860, or in Auvergne in 1840. Still active today, the brand remains an exemplar of French design savoir-faire. Under founding metalsmith Nöel Baguès’s direction, Maison Baguès began as a specialist in liturgical bronze candlesticks, before late-19th-century technological advancement—and the 1880 managerial arrival of Nöel’s son, Eugène—saw the broadening of the atelier’s range to include bronze fixtures for newly-invented electrical lighting. Expansion drove the following decades, as Eugène, together with his own sons, Victor and Robert, continued to swell out the atelier’s Art Deco-tinged output. By the 1920’s, Maison Baguès’s collections included gilded iron fixtures—the iconic Parrots & Foliage hand-strung crystal chandeliers and complexly carved wall sconces —as well as metal gates, accent tables, and stair bannis-ters (which still adorn Parisian locales like the Porte Dorée and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées). Delicate and detailed, Maison Baguès’s bespoke designs and metalwork attracted the social elite. In 1928, eminent bourgeoisie décorateur Armand-Albert Rateau famously used a se-lection of Maison Baguès accessories to furnish the townhouse interiors of haute couturist Jeanne Lanvin. Beyond Rateau, the atelier was commissioned by many chic interiors icons...
