About the Item

You should absolutely consider acquiring this Murano glass floor lamp designed by Alfredo Barbini—not only for its exquisite craftsmanship but also for the remarkable legacy it embodies. Created in the 1960s, this piece captures the spirit of Italian mid-century modernism, elevated by Barbini's masterful command of Murano glass artistry. Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007) was a towering figure in the world of Murano glass. Born into a family of glassmakers on the island of Murano, Venice, he began working with glass at a young age and quickly rose to prominence. By the 1930s, he was already collaborating with major glassmakers like Venini and Seguso. In 1946, he co-founded his own glass studio—Barbini Glassworks—which became renowned for innovation and impeccable technique. Barbini was known for his ability to manipulate thick layers of glass with a painter’s sensibility, often fusing sculptural form with vibrant color. His works are collected worldwide and featured in museums like the Corning Museum of Glass and the Murano Glass Museum. This floor lamp is not just lighting—it’s history, sculpture, and the expression of a master artisan at the height of his powers. Owning it means living with a piece of Italian design heritage that will never go out of style.
