Striking Red Lacquered Chinoiserie Floor Lamp with Table, France, ca. 1920–1940
A rare and decorative floor lamp in rich red lacquer, beautifully hand-painted with gilt chinoiserie scenes of pagodas, bridges, figures and exotic landscapes. Combining both function and artistry, this lamp doubles as a side table, with its distinctive star-shaped shelf and octagonal base adding sculptural presence.
The lacquer surface shows an attractive aged patina with craquelure and minor wear, enhancing its authenticity and character. Its tall, slender column rises elegantly to a large drum-shaped shade. The lamp is fitted with a later resin shade from the 1960s, which complements the piece’s character and scale; the shade can be replaced upon request.
