  • Studio Salvatori for Nucleo Sormani Rare Prototype 'Model 4 ' Table Lamp
    By Sormani, G. Salvatori & A. Bazzini
    Located in Waalwijk, NL
Studio Salvatori, (G. Salvatori, A. Bazzini) for the Nucleo Division of Sormani, lamp, model ‘4’, aluminum, silk-screened plexiglass, Italy 1971 Rare prototype of the model ‘4’ table lamp, designed by G. Salvatori and A. Bazzini for the Nucleo Division of Sormani. This wonderful lamp is a great example of the technical advances in lamp design in Italy, starting in the late 1960s. It represents an imaginative response to the availability of translucent plexiglass sheets. The use of plexiglass opened a whole new range of possibilities in the field of lamp design. Together with the almost hallucinating pattern in the plexiglass, that is lit from below by four bulbs, this lamp has hypnotizing qualities. The family-owned company Sormani was established in 1961 in the northern Italian town of Arosio. At the end of the sixties, the firm distinguished itself by its avant-garde furniture and furnishings in plastics. Richard Neagle was among the first using vacuum...
