About the Item
This beautiful and very contemporary lamp is a design by Ernesto Gismondi for the Artemide Group, of which he was a founder. The “Tebe” floor lamp is presented as a timeless and minimalist design. It is composed of a half-moon frosted glass shade and a black metal base. The frosting technique on the glass is achieved through the application of chemicals that create an opaque layer that gives it a translucent appearance. It features a modulator that allows the lighting to be adjusted. The brand, designer, and model identification are located on the base of the lamp.
Ernesto Gismondi (Sanremo, 1931 – Milan, 2020)
He graduated in Aeronautical Engineering from the Milan Polytechnic and in Missile Engineering from the Professional School of Engineering in Rome. From the early 1960s, he dedicated himself to the planning and production of lighting equipment, founding Studio Artemide Sas, from which the Artemide Group would develop, together with designer Sergio Mazza. He soon established himself as an international designer, participating as one of the inventors of the "Memphis" movement, an avant-garde movement that drove a profound evolution in the design sector worldwide, and designing several successful household appliances for the Group.
Under his leadership, the Artemide Group saw its market share grow and its international reach expand, becoming one of the major players in the designer lighting sector. In 2008, he received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Innovation category. In 2009, he received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Communication category. In 2018, he won the Compasso D’Oro Lifetime Achievement Award, with the jury's words: "Aerospace engineer, university professor, and entrepreneur; in short, a man of multifaceted talent."
