About the Item

A sensational and most decorative Italian 18th century Gilt Iron and Glass lantern. This wonderful hexagonal shaped lantern has a fanciful upside down crown like design at the bottom with a culmination of acanthus leaves at the center. Above is the most ornate cage displaying foliate bands at the top and bottom connected by wave like bands which hold the six glass panes. The lantern is illuminated by three interior electrified candles, while the exterior showcases four most unique scrolled arms with candle cups. Large scale scrolled acanthus leaves adorn the top for the cage and lead to a circular reeded plate with a foliate finial. The lantern is suspended from its original twisted Iron support and foliate canopy. Length of Canopy and Chain: 21"
