From the rolling hills of Northern Italy, this exquisite carved giltwood lantern once graced the loggia of a grand provincial villa near Lake Como. Its form is richly adorned with deeply carved acanthus leaves, scrolling volutes, and rosettes, each detail a testament to the artistry of Italian woodcarvers working in the Baroque Revival tradition of the late 19th century.
The warm, time-softened gilding captures the light in a way only true age can achieve—revealing a mellowed patina layered with centuries of character. Original glass panels enclose a four-light candelabra, whose faux wax candle sleeves echo the lantern’s original candlelit past, now thoughtfully rewired for modern use.
Crowned with elegant pierced scrollwork and terminating in an architectural finial, this lantern evokes the romance of old-world Italy. It speaks of evenings on shaded terraces, flickering candlelight illuminating stone archways and frescoed walls.
