This magnificent gilt bronze wall sconce is a striking example of 19th-century craftsmanship, richly decorated with allegorical figures, masks, and finely chased ornamentation. Designed to hold two candles, it combines both decorative elegance and functional purpose, making it a superb accent piece for an interior inspired by classical or historic grandeur. The backplate is elaborately cast with a central shield-shaped medallion surrounded by scrolling acanthus and foliate details. At the crest, two finely modeled allegorical female figures are seated in mirrored poses—one holding a sphere, symbol of knowledge or the cosmos, and the other with a scroll, representing wisdom or the arts. Between them rises a flambeau, a traditional motif of enlightenment and eternal flame. Below the shield, a grotesque mask with wings evokes Renaissance and Baroque influences, adding a dramatic touch.
