About the Item

This stunning French Art Deco wall sconce, designed by Jean Noverdy (Dijon), France, circa 1920, features a thick salmon/pink molded glass shade that exudes elegance and vintage charm. The rare and beautiful wrought iron fixture complements the delicate glasswork, making this piece both functional and artistic. Signed “Noverdy France Déposé” on the rim (as seen in the photo), it is a testament to the craftsmanship of the period. The sconce displays a glass thread inherent to the technique of its era, visible when lit (see photo). Additionally, there are small surfacing chips on the edges of the glass, which are discreetly hidden by the metal fixture, ensuring the overall beauty is maintained. Delivered wired for your country (EU, US, Australia, China, etc.), this piece is compatible with LED lighting. Jean Noverdy, a student of the esteemed Mr. Dubret, operated his own glassworks in Dijon, located at 17, Place Bossuet. Known for his innovative approach to glass, Noverdy often used two-layer glass shades, between which he pulverized colored enamels to create a distinctive marmoreal effect. His work, which includes molded glass vases and shades, is comparable to that of renowned glassmakers such as Daum Frères, André Delatte, and Muller Frères, who were also prominent in this era. Noverdy’s designs were showcased at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Français in Paris during the 1920s, solidifying his place in the Art Deco movement. This piece is a stunning example of the craftsmanship of the time and can be likened to the famous Nancean glassworks.
