About the Item

An incredible and very rare pair of large opposing cockerel wall lights, attributed to Jean Touret for Ateliers de Marolles, 1950's France. Beautifully hand crafted in iron, fully gilded and very much in the brutallist style. These lights were entirely hand made so the dimensions of each light differ slightly and are as follows- Height 67cm, Width 27cm, Depth 17cm Backplate 17.5cm Wide Height 65cm, Width 25cm, Depth 15cm Backplate 16cm Wide *Jean Touret (1916-2004) has gone down in history as the creator and artistic director of the ateliers of Marolles in the 1950s. This cooperative of craftsmen and artisans manufactured furniture with pure forms that is now in high demand in the world of design. He is also known for having created, along with his son Sébastien Touret, the monumental high alter in bronze installed in 1981 in the choir of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. *galeriegastou
