Painted Iron Wall Lights, in the manner of Maison Bagues

About the Item

A superbly decorative pair of painted wrought iron wall lights or sconces, very much in the style of and quite possibly made by, Maison Baguès. Probably France, early to mid-20th century. Rare opportunity to add a stunning piece to a classical or a modern interior. Why we like them We love this superbly drawn, balanced design, inspired by the intricate French ironwork of mid-17th century and enriched with hand-cut glass elements. Will look absolutely stunning in modern, classic or eclectic interiors without the risk of being too flashy. History Baguès was born in Auvergne in about 1840 and later moved to Paris to establish Maison Baguès there in 1860. Baguès quickly became a word synonymous with exceptional quality and has since been a specialist in luxury lighting. The company developed its designs towards the end of the nineteenth century alongside advancements in electricity and bronze lighting. In the 1920s, Victor and Robert Baguès, the sons of the founder, extended the company's collection with some of their own designs in iron. The company also worked with renowned designers and decorators including Jansen, Raymond Subes and Armand Albert Rateau. Currently fitted for the UK.
