About the Item

Pair of antique French gilt bronze sconces in the Baroque style French, late 19th century Measures: Height 61cm, width 39cm, depth 26cm The sconces in this pair are wrought from gilt bronze in the Baroque manner. Each sconce features three ornately scrolling light branches, each moulded with acanthus leaf forms and each terminating in a foliate drip tray and candleholder. The three branches issue from a similarly formed backplate, which undulates elegantly and is likewise moulded with acanthus leaves. The pair are superb examples of French nineteenth century craftsmanship.

Pair of gilt bronze Baroque style wall appliques French, late 19th Century Height 68cm, width 39cm, depth 17cm The appliques in this superb pair of works are wrought from gilt bronze in the Baroque style and feature mirrors and lights. Each piece features a cartouche shaped frame, richly moulded with a host of Baroque style detailing, including putti, acanthus leaves, and scrolling forms. Each applique is centred with a similarly shaped mirror, and each is adorned below with twin gilt bronze light branches, with each branch modelled in an ornately scrolling and foliate manner. The gilding, in exceptional unblemished condition, have a magnificent radiance, and when lit by candles or otherwise in the two mounts below the glass frame glow with a beautiful flickering light...
