About the Item

Art Deco wall lights circa 1930. Wrought iron frame. Pressed molded glass plates signed Degué. In perfect condition. Total height: 20.5 cm Width: 34 cm Depth: 10 cm Total weight: 3 kg Degué DEGUÉ (David GUERON) In 1926, David GUERON (1892-1950) took over a former glass and crystal factory in Compiègne (Oise), specializing in perfume bottles, under the name "SA Cristalleries de Compiègne." That same year, he founded the "Verrerie d'Art Degué" at 63 Boulevard Malherbes in Paris (factory) and acquired premises at 41 Rue de Paradis in the 10th arrondissement (showroom), in order to showcase a production of brightly colored, high-quality vases and lighting fixtures. The latter was later moved to 52 rue de Londres in Paris. It was inspired by the Art Deco style of Charles Schneider's decor, which led to Schneider successfully suing for counterfeiting in 1932. Edouard Cazeaux was David Guéron's artistic director. The glassworks also produced glasses and industrial tumblers between 1934 and 1935. It fulfilled an order for 6,000 pieces for the ocean liner "Le Normandie," intended for wall and light decorations made of chisel-cut glass slabs. It was the Second World War that brought the Degué Art Glassworks to an end, with David Guéron leaving France in 1939 to escape the Nazis.
