Pair of French, Napoleon III, bronze, mirrored candle sconces. Circa late 1800's

About the Item

This utterly gorgeous pair of antique French, Napoleon III, solid bronze, mirrored wall sconces, depicting cherubim and stylized Mascaron, possibly of Marianne, certainly make an impression on any wall. The quality, weight and detailing of the bronze work and the age and patination of the bronze itself gives the sconces an incredible presence. The sconces are in generally very good condition, considering their age but do show a natural age related tarnishing and verdigris to the bronze which has been gently cleaned to preserve their age and patination. The sconces do have the drillings and cable routes present, for the installation of electric cable, however, we have decided to leave them in the condition in which they were sourced, in Normandy, France, for use with candles. The wonderful, original, bevelled mirror plates are in generally good condition, considering their age but do show some light natural age related tarnishing, loss of mercury and foxing. One of the mirrors has slightly heavier foxing and losses, which only goes to their age and texture. The sconces still have their original bronze metal backplates which are in generally good condition, considering their age, but do show natural age related tarnishing and aging. A beautiful, rare and original find and an incredible addition to any home. NOTE - These are genuine, handmade, antique pieces and do show slight variations in their construction and form
