About the Item
Pair of torch/torchiere sconces.
In patinated and partially gilded wrought iron, the cone-shaped body decorated with a cord, completed by a smei-spherical cup at the top and a gadrooned cup at the base, the sun-shaped wall plate with double patina .

Gilbert Poillerat (1902-1988) is a French decorator and master ironworker. His work, often neoclassical, marked the French elegance of the 1940s. A student at the Ecole Boulle, he then worked for 8 years for Edgar Brandt before becoming one of the most influential ironworkers of the 1940s and 1950s.
Gilbert Poillerat created this model in 1937 for the Eiffel Tower restaurant and several variations were derived from it in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
