Pair of Two-Arm Gilt Bronze + Opaline Glass Sconces by Maison Arlus, France

About the Item

A pair of French sconces designed by Felix Agostini for Maison Arlus in the 1960s. These sconces, crafted from cast gilt bronze, feature two-arm silhouettes meticulously shaped into stylized branches. The organic form of the branches is enhanced by the lustrous, hammered finish of the gilt bronze, which beautifully captures and reflects light, adding rich texture and depth. Topped with cylindrical shades made of opaline glass, these sconces emit a soft, diffused glow, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. Originating from France in the 1960s, these pieces are emblematic of Agostini’s mastery. The collaboration between Felix Agostini and Maison Arlus was a perfect synergy, blending Agostini's artistic brilliance with Arlus’ technical craftsmanship. While Maison Arlus was already celebrated for its exceptional quality, Agostini took it a step further by infusing his designs with meticulous attention to detail in both materials and finishes. In this creation, Agostini transforms gilt bronze into graceful, sculptural forms resembling branches, demonstrating his profound understanding of the material’s potential. Approaching lighting design as a sculptor, Agostini treated each piece as a work of art. This artistic vision set his designs apart from his contemporaries, elevating his creations for Maison Arlus from mere functional objects to highly sought-after collectible art pieces. His work is distinguished by the interplay of light and shadow, enhancing any space in a way few others could achieve. Condition: Excellent overall vintage condition. Light patina to the gilt bronze that has naturally developed overtime. These sconces have been professionally rewired for U.S. use with two E12 sockets. New round backplates have been fabricated by our artisan partners. Accepts two candelabra base light bulbs each. Additional Dimensions: Backplate: 4"Diameter
