About the Item
French Art Deco pair of wall sconces by Petitot (Paris), France, 1920. Silverplate solid bronze pair of wall sconces by Petitot with their original thick frosted opalescent crystal shades by Jean Gauthier. Each - depth : 14.5"(37cm), width : 8.4"(21.3cm), height : 7"(18cm). Diameter of the wall plate : 5.1"(13cm). Delivered wired for your country (US, EU, China, Australia, etc). LED can be used.
The bronze maker Antonin Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Henri took over in 1917. They had there own shop in Paris yet primarily were a wholesale selling their lamps to shops all over France, Europe and the States. Together with Hettier & Vincent they became the largest producer of French art deco lighting in the early 1930s. Petitot produced precious fixtures in high quality heavy bronze with shades from the best French glass manufacturers such as Sabino, Jean Gauthier, Muller Freres, Degue and Schneider...
Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of Art Deco glassware in molded-pressed glass. Many Art Deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Establishments Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed Ezan France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
