About
Sculpture "Solid Formations no 5" by Stine Mikkelsen
Dimensions: 39 x 83 x 15 cm
Materials: Composite, Volcanic Ash and Marble
Inspired by Italian geology, two new composite materials have been developed by the studio. Composites where respectively marble and volcanic ash are the primary materials. In this collection, the new materials are accompanied by a granite composite, previously used in the Tactile Monoliths collection.
The shapes of the objects are inspired by the forces of nature and the contrast between the natural landscape and the geometric Formations created by humans in for instance quarries where natural resources are excavated.
Stine Mikkelsen is a Copenhagen-based material researcher and manipulatorworking within the field of experimental product design. With a background in textile design, materials have a primary role for her in boththe process as well as the final objects. Through challenging and refining methodsfrom this field, unexpected things occur which lead to new ways of making and producing. Through this, she not only challenges the way we understand textile andproduct design, she also modernises the notion of crafts.

Galerie Philia Furniture
Galerie Philia is a recognized contemporary design and modern fine arts gallery representing world wide known designers and artists. The Galerie Philia exhibits a collection resulting from a rhizomatic research transcending formal, stylistic, national or historical barriers. The selected art works emanates from different cultures and periods, are incarnated in various and multiform mediums, and evoke multiple and changing interior worlds. The only criterion unifying this composite plurality is their esthetical qualities and the sense they convey. The Galerie Philia attempts in this way to build bridges between different artistic continents in order to enlighten art works endowed with a marked artistic depth.
