1970s Belgian Camille Breesch Portoro Nero Marble Obelisk Lamps Pair

About the Item

An impressive, monumental pair of 1970s Portoro Nero marble obelisk lamps, with original 1970s black silk cloth shades (shades in fair condition but frames good for a re-do). They are exactly built to the design of other lamps by Camille Breesch, and quite possibly Breesch's work, but we don't have a makers mark, label or confirmation on that. These have been rewired. They meet Australian/NZ standards, please see notes on wiring, below. This is a simple conversion for your electrician - the cord can be changed easily and/or just the plug swapped. There is a leftover holder for a harp fitting still attached, for those in the US wishing to convert the lamp to a different kind of shade. These are monumental. The dimensions in the listing details are the full width and height of base and shade together, as pictured. The obelisk base alone measures: 28.5 x 27.5 cm (11.22 x 10.82 inches), with a height of 65cm (25.6 inches) to the top of the bulb socket. The shades alone measure: 56 cm wide x 38 cm deep x 32 cm high (22 inches wide x 14.96 deep x 12.59 high). The bases are in very good condition - minor chipping to the underside corner edges. The shade frames are in very good condition. The cloth on the shades has a few marks, scratches and small tears to the fabric. The shades still present well and are included in this sale for those who like to keep it vintage and those who want to re-cover them. A NOTE ON WIRING: This item is rewired to Australian/NZ Standard and has been tested and tagged safe for a nominal 230v system (supply of anywhere from 210-240v). Australian and New Zealand buyers must consult a registered electrician for hard wired installation or safety tag will be void. Plug and play if this item is a lamp. This light is compatible with European 220v electrical systems but wire colours may differ and correct bulbs may or may not be readily available. Please check with your bulb supplier before purchase - many are available online. Consult your electrician for hard wired installation or to change bulb sockets (or for plug change if this item is a lamp). In the US and anywhere a 110v system is in place - this light may or may not require rewiring to meet your local safety standards and correct bulbs may or may not be readily available. Please use the information provided to seek advice on compatibility from your locally registered electrician before purchase. They will be able to advise on the potential need for rewiring, bulb socket changes, or if this item is a lamp, for plug change. Before purchase, please check with your bulb supplier - many are available online. Use of LED bulbs is recommended (to prevent overheating and reduce power usage).

These make fabulous lamps for cocktail lounges or theatres of public entertainment such as bars, restaurants or cafes.
