About the Item

A Scavo technique aquamarine-green color glass vase mounted as circular table lamp, made in Murano, near Venice, Italy, circa 1980s. The Scavo finished glass, hand blown in a beautiful aquamarine green tone and black details, offers an elegant Amphora shape and shows an extraordinary craftsmanship with the use of the so-called Scavo or corroso technique. Scavo literally means excavation glass, for the particular finish alike to the antique Roman glass brought to light from excavation. Listed sizes and price are relative to lamp base only, lampshade is for imaging only. The height of green scavo glass vase only is cm 48, whereas the light socket lamp cap height is 57 cm and base diameter is 18 cm. The characteristic feature of this type of glass, is an overall surface rough mat finish, predominantly green aquamarine color. The uneven appearance and opaque color are the results of the reaction of salts and mineral oxides scattered over the surface of the object during the last phase of work. The hand blown glass lamp can be lightened inside and that makes it very impressive, it is decorated by clear glass handles and stands on a circular black tole base. Luminous powder green color in combination with frosty white finish is evocative of glacial ice or an arctic cave. A label with the Italian inscription saying that minor flecks and irregularities are a natural by glass blowing product of the scavo process, which is intended to give such pieces the look of antiquity. Italian standard working wiring. Good condition, unsigned, it is a Venetian manufacture circa 1980. Pictures with lampshade are for display only.
