About the Item

Magnificent and incredibly rare orange "Jenga" table lamp designed by Albano Poli for Poliarte in Italy during the 1970s. This spectacular light sculpture is in fabulous condition, with no chips or cracks. It consists of many finely crafted pieces of vibrant orange mouth blown glass stacked together. The lamp when lit is simply breathtaking. It comes wired and tested, compatible with both US and EU/UK standards, it uses a single E27 light bulb. Perfect for collectors and mid-century design enthusiasts, this light sculpture is not just a decorative piece but a functional work of art that will enhance any space. Dimensions (cm) : Width - 22 Depth - 22 Height - 22 Positioned oblique the lamp dimension are 28 x 28 x 28cm. Albano Poli was born in 1935. Albano studied at the art school where the Artist Casarini taught, and it was thanks to the latter that his love for artistic stained glass began, working first with Maestro Veronese Ballardini and then succeeding him at just 22 years old together with Maestro Cavallini, a partner with whom he founded “Arte Vetraria Veronese” in 1957. In 1968 the paths of the two partners diverged: Albano Poli with great foresight and a precise vision founded POLI ARTE which immediately established itself in the panorama of Made in Italy furniture design and, in that same year, Albano Poli received the first recognition at the XXXIV Venice Biennale: a sculpture lamp with a cubic geometry thus became the symbol and inspiration for all subsequent production. The work of art of light made on commission, as was the artistic stained glass window, is transformed into something unique and in step with the times, the art of light previously tied to architecture, in particular of large churches, thanks to electricity is collected in the hands of the artist who gives it a new casing and makes what was once mere ambient lighting a work capable of moving those who live in that environment. This is how the POLI ARTE lamps were born, which identify in glass a soul linked both to tradition and to the experience of the artist-designer. Inspired by the masses of waste glass from the Murano furnaces, usually transformed into broken and shapeless blocks commonly called "gems", the master Poli thinks of a glass that is no longer fragile and delicate like that of the artistic stained glass window, but solid and safe, a module that allows the construction of works of art in step with the times, a metaphor of the multiplicity that together gives life to something unique. In 1970, confirming the success of POLI ARTE lamps as true works of art and not just furnishing and design elements, Albano Poli was awarded the gold medal at the XXII International Crafts Fair in Munich. The recognition consolidated an already established market, the German one, but was also an important springboard for the Italian and international market: an unexpected success because it did not depend on particular marketing operations but only and exclusively on the great value of these lamps, immediately and widely understood. An important example is certainly the interest shown by Dior at the Salone del Mobile in Milan which in those years saw its first great expansion and where POLI ARTE was present with its lamps: the glass cube becomes the symbol of a philosophy and soon of the company itself, identifying a clear and unmistakable style, capable of imposing itself in a complex panorama, precisely thanks to the art that distinguished POLI ARTE production throughout the 70s.
