About the Item

Meticulously handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from an antique Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek vase (circa 1910-1917), Lindus is a one-of-a-kind table lamp that exhibits characteristics of both Art Nouveau and early Art Deco styles. This unique piece features a distinctive matte glaze with a band of Iznik Ottoman-inspired tulips and carnations, reflecting the superb artistry of its era. We've paired the vase base with a new contemporary, soft white lampshade to put the focus on the vase base along with a sage cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. The Lindus decor, which lends its name to this lamp, was produced during a time of artistic innovation at the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek. This Dutch pottery factory, renowned for its blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design, significantly influenced the art pottery movement of the early 20th century. The Lindus vase which serves as the base of this lamp embodies a blend of Art Nouveau's organic, flowing lines and floral motifs, graphic geometric bands characteristic of Art Deco, along with Ottoman Iznik pottery's vibrant yet harmonious colors. It stands as a testament to the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek's mastery in merging traditional motifs with modern artistic trends, making it a distinctive addition to any sophisticated interior. Please note, the lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Art Nouveau Ceramics Table Lamp Hand Decorated at L. Hjort, Denmark, 1930s
By Lauritz Adolph Hjorth
Located in Odense, DK
Ceramics table lamp made at "L. Hjort", Denmark in the 1930s. The base is made from stoneware and hand decorated with fruit branches and bird motif in Art Nouveau style. Original socket mount in patinated brass. Mounted with vintage green pleated shade. Marked by maker underneath. In the 1850s at the island of Bornholm in Denmark the small terracotta factory "L. Hjort" specialized in producing terracotta earthenware items. The factory had great success internationally, and already by 1880 Hjorth's articles were sold in the big department stores of Paris, London and Berlin, and as far away as in Australia, New York and Sct. Thomas. The factory also participated in the big World Exhibitions in Altona 1869, London 1870 and 1874 as well as New Orleans 1885. One of Hjorths Fabrik's biggest successes and Denmark's first real stoneware series is the grey-brown stoneware. It is available as vases, jars, dishes, stands, tea and coffee sets, lamps, buttons, brooches, door signs...
