About the Item

Exceptional earthenware / black terracotta Art Nouveau table lamp with floral decor by Lauritz Hjorth, Denmark 1920s. The lamp is in original vintage condition made of earthenware/black terracotta. Mount, socket and lampshade bracket are made of brass. It is marked underneath with "L. Hjort" and the model no. 798. Very good overall condition. Three small chips are visible at the connection between the lamp body and the lamp rod. The lamp is checked by an electrician. Fully functional with two original E27/E26 brass sockets. Works with both 110V and 220V. To operate the lamp in the USA, either an adapter or a US plug is required. Comes without lampshade and bulbs. Dimensions: Height 23.2" / 59cm, Diameter Base 7.9" / 20cm.

Ceramics table lamp made at "L. Hjort", Denmark in the 1930s. The base is made from stoneware and hand decorated with fruit branches and bird motif in Art Nouveau style. Original socket mount in patinated brass. Mounted with vintage green pleated shade. Marked by maker underneath. In the 1850s at the island of Bornholm in Denmark the small terracotta factory "L. Hjort" specialized in producing terracotta earthenware items. The factory had great success internationally, and already by 1880 Hjorth's articles were sold in the big department stores of Paris, London and Berlin, and as far away as in Australia, New York and Sct. Thomas. The factory also participated in the big World Exhibitions in Altona 1869, London 1870 and 1874 as well as New Orleans 1885. One of Hjorths Fabrik's biggest successes and Denmark's first real stoneware series is the grey-brown stoneware.
