Black and Chrome Desk Lamp Model 71 by JUMO, France, 1960's

About the Item

This desk lamp had us intrigued, with it's functional and rational design based on geometric forms and shapes. Made in France in the 1960s and 70s by JUMO and attributed to the Designer André Mounique, this lamp combines the functional sobriety of the Bauhaus movement with the stylish elegance of French design. The lamp base consists of a heavy cast iron counterweight and is covered in a rounded and ribbed black metal with chrome plates on the sides. Two elegantly shaped chromed rods connect the base to the ribbed black metal lampshade, allowing the shade to be height adjusted as needed. The lampshade is fitted with two sockets for B22 bayonet cap lightbulbs, which are inserted with a "push and twist" action. A white push button switch, placed at the center of the base, turns the the light on and off. The lamp is in good condition with only few signs of its age and use. There is a small dent in the ribbed metal cover of the base on the front righthand side (please refer to photos). Dimensions: Height: 41 cm (16.1 in) Lampshade Length: 45 cm (17.7 in) Base Length: 14 cm (5.5 in) Packed with extra care for safe shipping! Please note: With a lifetime of stories behind them, our vintage design items come with a bit of character. Like the best of us, they may have picked up some scratches and scuff marks, acquired patina, and that original shine may have faded a little. And like with most of us, the internal struggles are not always visible to the outside world. Our second-hand items may not fulfil state-of-the art safety standards and codes in your region. Inner faults may exist that were missed by us. Please always consult with a certified professional before installing any electrical items.

Art Deco Table Lamp "Ikora" by Paul Haustein for WMF, Model 110 / 216, Germany c
By WMF Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, Paul Haustein
Located in Cork, IE
A silver-plated brass body, which was "fire-patinated" in a newly developed chemical process, makes this "Ikora" table lamp a true example of how technological innovation drove exceptional design in 1920s Germany! During the late 1920s WMF developed new techniques involving chemical reactions on precious metals and glass to produce its celebrated "Ikora" collection. By using a stopping-out method to create the pattern and adding Ammonia to blacken the brass during a high temperature firing process, a playful, yet geometric pattern was achieved, which gives this lamp a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. Originally designed in 1928 by Prof Paul Haustein as a decorative metal container with lid, WMF decided to also use this design for this table lamp with model number 110 / 216 The lamp is wired for two E27 light bulbs and the central column can be easily extended by up to 8 cm (3.1 in) by loosening and tightening a small handle next to the two light sockets. This allows for different light effects as well as mounting larger lamp shades...
