About the Item

An exquisite example of early 19th-century French Provincial lighting, this elegant Bouillotte lamp hails from the South of France, dating to around 1830. Crafted in richly patinated gilt brass, the lamp features a central stem flanked by three curved arms in the form of stylized cornucopias, each terminating in a faux candleholder, originally designed for wax tapers and later converted for electricity. The finely cast details include acanthus leaf motifs, rosette flourishes, and foliate scrolls, all resting on a turned base with concentric neoclassical engravings. Topping the lamp is the original black-painted tole shade, an increasingly rare feature, suspended by a finely detailed arrow-shaped finial and supported by a brass crossbar. The adjustable shade height adds both functionality and charm, in true Bouillotte tradition. This lamp is in excellent condition, professionally rewired for modern use while preserving its period authenticity. A timeless piece that blends neoclassical grace with Provincial warmth, perfect for a writing desk, console, or side table.
