Édouard Cazaux Art Deco Lamp American Indian Arrowhead Motif – A Masterwork

About the Item

Édouard Cazaux Art Deco Gilt Bronze and Enameled Ceramic Lamp with Arrowhead Motif. France, circa 1925 A rare and visually powerful Art Deco table lamp by one of France’s premier Art Deco ceramicists and sculptors, French sculptor and ceramist Édouard Cazaux, paying homage to the symbolic artistry of Native American cultures The lamp combines Cazaux’s sculptural refinement with a deep respect for indigenous forms. A bold and symbolic Art Deco table lamp by Édouard Cazaux, featuring a richly patinated gilt bronze base with an enameled ceramic body in a crackle glaze. This striking piece blends Cazaux’s sculptural sensitivity with decorative motifs drawn from both ancient and Indigenous forms. Enclosing the base is a continuous frieze of stylized arrowheads, alternating in teal, gold, and gunmetal tones. These triangular forms are deeply incised and highlighted with gilded accents, evoking symbols of protection, strength, and direction—hallmarks of both Native American and early modernist vocabularies. Between each arrowhead rises a pointed, talon- or nailhead-like projection in bronze, enhancing the rhythmic architectural effect. The ceramic body is finished in a complicated, textured crackle glaze with subtle iridescence and earthy undertones, complementing the strong geometry of the base. A sculpted bronze collar provides visual balance. Signed on the base.
