About the Item
A sculptural statement from the 1980s, this Hollywood Regency-style lamp by Lam Lee under the Leeazane label reflects the designer’s signature flair for opulence and rich materiality.
The form is grounded by a circular pedestal base, gilded in deep gold leaf, from which three stylised palm fronds splay upwards to cradle a large spherical urn — a deliberate contrast in scale and geometry. The urn is finished in a lighter lemon gold leaf, creating tonal depth across the composition.
The palette spans a refined spectrum of leafing techniques — red gold(23.5 carat), lemon gold (16-carat), and a cooler white gold (16 carat) used on the lamp shade itself. The shade's gilt surface is finished in a soft, satin-patinated sheen, trimmed at the edge in red gold leaf, providing a subtle counterbalance to the cooler tone above.
At 86 cm high and 47 cm in diameter including the shade, the lamp holds a striking presence. A considered example of Lam Lee’s later work — Hollywood Regency in spirit, with postmodern and Art Deco revivalist undercurrents.
The base is in good vintage condition with light, age-appropriate wear. The shade shows surface patina, along with a worn section to the inner fibreglass rim. The metal spokes supporting the lamp holder show wear, with two slightly bent, though all components remain structurally sound and presentable.
