Lamp F168 by Etienne Fermigier, edited by Monix

About the Item

Etienne Fermigier trained at the École Boulle, before graduating top of his class from the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (ENSAD) in 1957. Two years later, in 1959, Étienne Fermigier joined forces with his fellow student Pierre Perrigault to set up the Meubles et Fonction gallery at 135 Boulevard Raspail in Paris's 6th arrondissement. Here, for the next three years, they mainly exhibited Fermigier pieces. At the 41st Salon des Arts Décoratifs in 1959, they presented the gallery's first historic showcase, entirely designed by Fermigier2. Étienne Fermigier was the sole designer at Meubles et Fonction when the gallery first opened. From 1962 onwards, the gallery expanded to include pieces by Olivier Mourgue, as well as Italian and Scandinavian designers3. It was also one of the first to exhibit Pierre Paulin, a close friend of Pierre Perrigault. As the years went by, the Meubles et Fonction gallery grew and eventually opened several offices, Fermigier becoming the head of the gallery's design department. The gallery became a reference point for design enthusiasts and professionals alike. The gallery collaborates with numerous publishers, including Disderot, Téléavia, Steiner, Airborne4, Minvielle, Sentou and Roset.

Rope Lamp by Audoux Minnet, 1960's
By Adrien Audoux and Frida Minnet
Located in PARIS, FR
The absence of an Audoux-Minnet catalog means that we have only partial knowledge of their production. We do know, however, that it was certainly during their honeymoon that Adrien Audoux, originally from Franche-Comté, and Frida Minnet, originally from Switzerland, decided to set up their business in Cannes in 1929. Frida Minnet's father was himself a rattan furniture manufacturer in Montreux, where his store was located. He was invaluable in helping the young couple set up shop, producing mainly rattan furniture. In 1942, the company moved to Golfe-Juan, not far from Vallauris, where Jean Bonaudi also produced rattan furniture. Here, customers from La Rievera, made up of wealthy Britons and Americans attracted by "French taste", bought their furniture. In the '50s, the company, better known as "le Doux Minet" and taking a black kitten as its symbol, invented a new style of furniture that would make their reputation. The frame, often in oak or beech, is entirely covered in raffia. The seats are then covered with raffia made of checkerboard or coarse-mesh braided mats. Audoux-Minnet's flagship armchair, whose beech legs form a single unit with the armrests, was manufactured by the Vibo company in Vesoul. Audoux-Minnet furniture bears an oblong plate...

Étienne Fermigier F170 Table Lamp for Disderot
By Disderot, Etienne Fermigier
Located in Glendale, CA
Étienne Fermigier F170 table lamp for Disderot Originally designed in 1970, the model F170 exemplifies the anti-conformist and futuristic design of the era, during which the materials used were more often synthetic thus producing a shiny or translucent result. Étienne Fermigier uses aluminium and plexiglass for this lamp with soft curves and ultra modern symmetry. The F170 lamp...
