About Imari ware Imari ware originated in the town of Arita, Japan, during the early 17th century and gained its name from the nearby port through which it was shipped. Famed for its bold designs and vibrant color schemes—particularly underglaze blue with red and gold overglaze—Imari porcelain became a staple of export art during the Edo period. Its intricate patterns and luxurious feel captivated European collectors, influencing tastes and inspiring adaptations across the decorative arts.
