About the Item
Very rare example of an early factory machinist's lamp made in England by Dugdills. c.1910
Manufactured from steel with a wonderful patinated finish throughout, featuring the earlier cogged tightening joints. AP number and Dugdills maker's mark debossed to base. Fully articulating, allowing this versatile lamp to be positioned in any manner and can be desk, wall or ceiling mounted. Complete with its original white enamel shade, showing some age related wear.

About the maker
The company was formed in the late 19th century in Manchester by John Dugdill - an electrical engineer. Many of the lamps designed and produced by Dugdills graced workshop machinery such as lathes and illuminated workbenches in their thousands. Even so, they were made to last a lifetime of use and were designed to be beautiful. The earlier variants of Dugdills lamps feature a 'rosette' or 'cog' tightening wheel at the joint allowing the lamp to be locked into any position. Customers could request their lamps in a variety of finishes including painted, oxy-copper or nickel plated and brass.

Industrial Dugdills Desk Lamp
A scarce early Dugdills lamp reclaimed from a military installation. The lamp is in original condition retaining its white enamel shade and steel arms with their original cream paint. This is a rare model of Dugdills lamps produced.
Dugdills were one of the early manufacturers of industrial lighting. The company was founded in the 1930s by John Dugdill a prolific British inventor who filed a succession of technical patents in both Britain and the US before 1939. This desk lamp with its articulating joints has the rarer cog tensioners and would have been issued for use in the Royal Navy retaining its AP9103A Admiralty Patent number.
