Mid-Century Ceramic Lamp by Jean Rivier, 1950's, Vallauris, France A beautiful milky white and blue glazed ceramic lamp. Signed below: "Jean Rivier". It is in a very good condition. Height : 14,5 " (37 cm) - 9,5" (24 cm) without the shade Diameter : 4,8" (12 cm) The bulb is a B22 --------------------------------------------------------- Ceramist, painter and poet, Jean Rivier is a multi-faceted artist. Born in Tunis in 1915, Jean Rivier discovers ceramics thanks to his wife, Juliette Derel. He moves in 1952 with her to Vallauris where he became one of the members of the group of "Vallauris potters", a major ceramic centre on the French Riviera from 1930 to 1970, along with Pablo Picasso, Jean Marais, Jean Gerbino, Roger Capron, Robert Picault, Jean Derval, Jacques Innocenti. Both Jean and Juliette produced a recognizable artwork decorated with modernist geometric patterns, engraved or hand-painted. Alongside artists such as Pablo Picasso and Suzanne Ramier, Jean Rivier took part in numerous ceramic exhibitions, such as the Neronuim exhibition. In 1962, he received a medal at the international exhibition in Prague.
