About the Item
Gorgeous table lamp in blown lattimo glass, attributed to Carlo Nason, for the historic A.V. glassworks. Mazzega, made in the 1970s.
This fascinating creation is distinguished by its fluid and sinuous sculptural form, which recalls the iconic outline of a light bulb, a symbol of light and creativity.
The structure consists of a single large body of mouth-blown glass, expertly crafted to achieve a perfect transition from milky white to superior transparency.
This effect is achieved through a traditional Murano technique involving overlapping layers of opalescent and transparent glass, fused together and then hand-blown to create harmonious and elegant shapes.
Milky glass, known for its soft, milky finish, is produced by adding oxides or minerals that dull the material without compromising its luminosity.
In this case, the workmanship allows light to diffuse evenly, creating warm and sophisticated lighting.
The lamp is supported by a solid chrome-plated metal base, which houses four light points.
The interplay of light and glass shades creates a unique visual effect, enhancing the refinement and quality of Murano craftsmanship.
In excellent condition, this lamp represents a valuable piece for collectors and design enthusiasts, a perfect blend of Venetian glassmaking tradition and 20th-century modernist taste.
Mouth-blown glass is one of the oldest and most fascinating glassmaking techniques, practiced in Murano for centuries. This method involves the master glassmaker taking a quantity of molten glass (at about 1200°C) with a long metal rod and, skillfully blowing, shaping the desired piece.
In the case of milky glass, the process is even more complex: different types of glass are layered, alternating opal and transparent layers, to achieve the characteristic soft, silky finish.
The glass is then shaped by hand with precision tools so that the shape remains fluid and harmonious.
This technique requires great experience and artistic sensitivity, as glass rapidly becomes less malleable as it cools. The result is a unique work in which each piece has slight variations that testify to its authenticity and craftsmanship.
Carlo Nason, Master of Glass Design (b. 1935) was born into one of Murano's oldest families of master glassmakers, active since the 16th century.
He grew up immersed in the art of glass, learning craftsmanship techniques from a young age, while developing an innovative and modern vision of design.
Since the 1960s, Carlo Nason has distinguished himself in the lighting design scene through his essential forms, experimental use of opaline and lattimi glass, and ability to combine Murano tradition with a minimal, contemporary aesthetic.
He collaborates with several Murano glassworks, including the renowned A.V. Mazzega, for whom he designed some of his most famous works. His internationally recognized creations are now sought after by collectors and featured in museums and galleries around the world. His ability to transform glass into works of art
