A rare late 19th century oil lamp with a globe shade and base decorated with a castle set in a rural scene, circa 1885. Northern European for the French market. The countries and seas indicated on the globe written in French. Burner made by Kosmos-Brenner. Measures: Height 52 cm – 20 1/2 inches. Diameter 14.5 cm – 6 inches.

Lamp said to Carcel system mounted on China vase in Canton XIXth century. Bronze frame. This Carcel mechanism bears the name of its inventor Guillaume Carcel who, in 1800, developed his oil lamp (of rapeseed, for example) comprising a suction-repressing pump driven by a clockwork motor, which ensured the constant supply of the wick. The tank is no longer on the side: it is now under the burner. This floor lamp has a cylindrical wick burner and a movable glass holder to adjust the flame. The glass-chimney is throttled at the level of the flame. The Carcel lamp, deemed expensive and fragile, was reserved for a wealthy clientele. His widow and his son-in-law Mr. Zier, still held in 1821, the workshops and the shop at 8 rue de l'Arbre-Sec in Paris. This very expensive lamp is very fragile and was once considered a luxury model. Dimension 68 cm in height and 20 cm in diameter decorated with trees and flowers.
