About the Item

Rare and elegant opaline glass lamp by Pukeberg and Böhlmarks, Stockholm Sweden circa 1940. The Pukeberg sticker with a circled B for Böhlmarks indicates that this lamp was made between 1930 and 1940, period during which they collaborated with the famous designer Uno Westerberg. The diabolo shape is emblematic of the scandinavian mid-century modern movement, the middle part has a layer of black matte glass adorned with yellow stripes. The lamp is in great original condition, with original bulb fitting and, the cord plug is a "Luxemo" which means the lamp was originally purchased in the Monte Carlo Monaco Luxemo store. "Between the 1920s and 1950s, Böhlmarks was a significant player in the Swedish design movement. It was an era that we today regard as a golden age for Swedish design and craftsmanship. During these decades, some of the country’s most significant luminaires were designed and produced at Böhlmarks. A designer who probably had a great influence on the company’s design is Uno Westerberg, who was employed by Böhlmarks in 1935 as a designer of lighting glass. One of Westerberg and Notini’s luminaires is today represented at MoMA in New York. Westerberg took over as Artistic Director of Pukeberg after Böhlmarks closed down."
